  • Outreach : Fitting of Loop Induction System in the classes at Samarpan primary school for the hearing and speech impaired children in Gandhinagar.
  • Centre Based : Our Paldi centre established in 2013 has been offering a range of services to children with special needs and their families. Our staff are trained to work on the child's strengths and help them reach their full potential using very structured lessons and also by creating an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) with the help of the parents and other professionals. An IEP builds on the curriculum that a child with learning difficulties or disabilities is following and sets out the strategies being used to meet that child’s specific needs. An IEP is a teaching and learning plan and should set out targets and actions for the child that are different from or additional to those that are in place for the rest of the class.

During our summer camp, we also encourage friends and siblings of our children with special needs to attend to encourage interaction and also to promote opportunities of joint learning through play. We also organise workshops like stress busters, art and craft and soap making for our parents. Various outings are organised during the camps along with dance therapy, music therapy, drama therapy and art and craft lessons for our children.

Project Area

The Lambha ward covers the following areas : Narol, Lambha, Shahwadi / Motipura, Indiranagar, Vatva (partly), Bachubhai No Kuvo, Piplaj, Laxmipura, Ranipur and Bombay Hotel (partly). This is one of the most densely populated slums of Ahmedadab. Very few organisations or voluntary groups are working in this area since it is one of the most communally sensitive areas of the city. The area was also affected very badly during the Communal Riots of 2002, in the aftermath of Godhra carnage. This area has been selected for the project taking into account the special needs of the area. The project area will be divided into two different clusters (each field worker will be given a cluster) and once the needs are identified OA will focus on the area for the rest of the year.
